Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (BEV) owners in the United States and Canada are set to gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, marking a significant enhancement in charging convenience and accessibility. Starting February 2025, this collaboration between Tesla and Mercedes-Benz will allow Mercedes-Benz BEV drivers to utilize over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, seamlessly integrated through the Mercedes me Charge service. This strategic move underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and user-friendly charging ecosystem for its growing electric vehicle portfolio, directly addressing a key concern for EV adoption: charging infrastructure.
Dimitris Psillakis, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, emphasized the importance of this development: “As our technologically advanced and highly compelling all-electric vehicle portfolio continues to grow, we recognize that a critical component for a seamless ownership experience for our customers is to ensure convenient access to a broad charging network. Adopting the NACS standard in our electric vehicles and opening the Tesla Supercharger network to our battery electric vehicle customers represents an important step forward.” This statement highlights the customer-centric approach driving the Tesla Mercedes Benz partnership in charging solutions.
Expanding the Mercedes me Charge Network with Tesla Superchargers
The inclusion of the Tesla Supercharger network significantly expands the reach of Mercedes me Charge. Already offering access to networks like Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, IONNA, Electrify America, EVGo, and ChargePoint, Mercedes me Charge will now encompass over 110,000 public charging points across the United States and Canada. This expansion positions Mercedes-Benz as a leader in providing an industry-benchmark charging experience for its EV drivers.
Franz Reiner, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, stated, “By opening access to Tesla Superchargers in North America to our customers, we underline our commitment to providing our customers with as many charging options as possible. The fast-growing network of charging points available in Mercedes me Charge will now expand to over 110,000 public charging points across the United States and Canada, providing Mercedes-Benz drivers with an industry-leading charging experience whenever and wherever they choose to charge.” This demonstrates the scale of improvement for Tesla Mercedes Benz EV owners.
To ensure seamless integration, a complimentary software update will be provided to compatible Mercedes-Benz vehicles by authorized dealerships. This update will enable the Plug & Charge functionality at Tesla Superchargers. Mercedes-Benz will proactively contact affected customers to schedule these updates, further demonstrating their commitment to a smooth transition. Charging can also be initiated via the Mercedes-Benz app or the intuitive MBUX infotainment system, offering multiple convenient options for Tesla Mercedes Benz users. Furthermore, Tesla Superchargers will be integrated into Mercedes-Benz’s “Navigation with Electric Intelligence,” ensuring drivers are guided to the most efficient charging stops along their route.
Adapter Solution for Current Mercedes-Benz EVs
Recognizing the immediate needs of current Mercedes-Benz EV owners with CCS1-compatible charging ports, Mercedes-Benz will offer a Mercedes-Benz-approved NACS to CCS1 DC fast charging adapter. This adapter will enable existing vehicles to utilize Tesla Superchargers, ensuring no Mercedes-Benz EV owner is left behind in this charging revolution. Available for purchase at authorized dealerships, the adapter will cost $185 in the US (Q1 2025) and will be available in Canada in Q2 2025. Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that this adapter is rigorously tested and certified for safety and compatibility with all Mercedes-Benz BEVs and NACS DC fast charging points, ensuring peace of mind for Tesla Mercedes Benz adapter users.
Future-Proofing with Native NACS Integration
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz is committed to long-term charging convenience. Starting in 2025, new Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles in North America will be equipped with native North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports. This future-proofs Mercedes-Benz EVs, allowing direct connection to Tesla Superchargers without the need for an adapter. This integration further simplifies the charging process for future Tesla Mercedes Benz customers and solidifies Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to the NACS standard.
Mercedes-Benz’s Holistic Charging Ecosystem
The integration of the Tesla Supercharger network and the adoption of NACS are part of Mercedes-Benz’s broader strategy to create a comprehensive EV charging ecosystem. Beyond this Tesla Mercedes Benz collaboration, Mercedes-Benz is actively investing in its own high-power charging network. Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging stations, boasting 400kW chargers, are being rolled out across North America, with plans to expand to half of US states by 2026. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is a partner in the IONNA joint venture, which aims to establish 30,000 high-power charging points across North America. These initiatives, combined with the Tesla Supercharger access, demonstrate Mercedes-Benz’s multi-faceted approach to ensuring convenient and reliable charging for all its EV customers, making the transition to electric vehicles even more appealing for Tesla Mercedes Benz enthusiasts and new EV adopters alike.
