The city of Tuscaloosa is embarking on a new chapter for the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, as they are set to collaborate with a new talent booking partner. This marks a significant shift for the venue, officially named the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, as it is the first time since its opening in 2011 that a partner other than Red Mountain Entertainment will be booking talent.
For over 13 years, Birmingham-based Red Mountain Entertainment has held the reins for talent acquisition at the amphitheater, initially known as the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. They were instrumental in introducing the venue to the public with the Avett Brothers over a decade ago and have been the sole promoters for every show since.
However, this long-standing relationship is coming to a close. Last week, the Tuscaloosa City Council decided not to renew the contract with Red Mountain Entertainment, which is scheduled to expire on December 31st of this year.
Mayor Walt Maddox acknowledged the significant contribution of the outgoing partner. “Red Mountain Entertainment has played a vital role in the creation and growth of the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater,” he stated. “Their dedication and efforts have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon.”
This transition coincides with a period of upgrades and enhancements at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater. The venue underwent a renaming less than a year prior to recognize the impactful partnership between the city and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International. Furthermore, city officials are actively considering a comprehensive 10-year plan aimed at transforming and upgrading the entire amphitheater space to ensure it remains a premier destination for live music and events.
Looking ahead, the Tuscaloosa City Council has approved a new agreement with Danny Wimmer Presents Talent Services, LLC. This decision was formalized in a unanimous vote during a city council meeting this Tuesday.
“Over the past 13 years, the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater has become a vital part of our City’s legacy and a hub for economic development,” Mayor Maddox commented on the new partnership. “We are excited to continue to grow this legacy with Danny Wimmer Presents as we strive to bring in new talent and create unforgettable experiences for our community.”
