This experience provided a great insight into what this model offers, particularly for those considering a blend of luxury and performance in a compact sedan. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the C300 is undeniably attractive. It’s a car that catches the eye without being ostentatious, a balance that Mercedes-Benz often achieves masterfully.

The cabin is undeniably luxurious, particularly for front passengers who are treated to ample space and exceptionally comfortable seating. However, it’s worth noting that rear legroom is somewhat limited, especially if the front seats are adjusted back to accommodate taller individuals. The rear center seat is best reserved for occasional use or shorter trips, as it lacks the contours and space for adult comfort on longer journeys.

The front seats, however, are a highlight. With a wide array of power adjustments, finding an ideal driving position in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan is almost guaranteed. Initially, accustomed to driving an SUV, I found myself seated lower and even briefly brushed the roof with my head. The car encourages a slightly reclined driving posture, which wasn’t my immediate preference as someone who prefers a more upright position. Nevertheless, after a few adjustments, I was able to achieve a comfortable and commanding driving position without any headroom issues.

Adding to the airy feel of the cabin is the impressive dual sunroof. The front section is generously sized, creating an open and expansive atmosphere, while the rear section, though smaller, still contributes to the overall brightness. While the sunroof doesn’t fully retract, opening approximately 80%, the amount of natural light it allows into the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan is still a significant and welcome feature.

These figures translate to a responsive and enjoyable driving experience. While not overtly aggressive, the engine provides ample power for confident acceleration, especially once the turbocharger engages. The car’s relatively light weight, combined with the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, ensures efficient power delivery and sure-footed traction in various conditions.

However, there is a noticeable hesitation from a standstill. The 2.0L engine, before the turbocharger spools up, exhibits a slight lack of immediate low-end grunt. The accelerator pedal feel is also somewhat soft, contributing to this initial lag. Switching to “Sport” driving modes does significantly sharpen throttle response and mitigate this issue, but in standard driving mode, the engine’s small displacement is apparent at lower RPMs.

One aspect that stood out was the transmission programming in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan. While equipped with the same 7-speed automatic transmission as my own vehicle, the C300’s transmission shifts much more rapidly through the lower gears. Second gear, in particular, feels almost bypassed entirely. This aggressive shifting strategy appears designed to keep the engine within its power band and maintain turbocharger boost. While effective for performance, it can occasionally result in slightly abrupt gear changes and a less seamless driving experience compared to my own vehicle’s transmission tuning.

The auto start/stop system, increasingly common in modern vehicles, is present in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan. While the engine restarts quickly, the accompanying shudder is noticeable and can become tiresome in stop-and-go traffic. Furthermore, in situations requiring微小的 forward movements, such as navigating congested traffic or parking, the frequent engine stop-starts can be particularly intrusive. Fortunately, the system can be deactivated via a button, although it defaults back to “on” each time the car is started.

While enjoyable to drive spiritedly, its primary strength lies in its comfortable and composed demeanor.

Like many contemporary vehicles, the C300 offers multiple driving modes, extending beyond the typical “economy” and “sport” settings. The available modes include:

  • Economy
  • Comfort
  • Sport
  • Sport+
  • Individual (customizable settings)

Each mode adjusts several parameters, including throttle response, steering feel, transmission shift points, auto start/stop activation, and climate control efficiency.

Economy mode prioritizes fuel efficiency. The engine stop/start system is active at every opportunity, throttle response is significantly dampened, and the transmission upshifts aggressively to maintain low engine speeds. Climate control operation is also subtly restricted to further conserve fuel.

Comfort mode, arguably the “normal” driving mode, provides a balanced driving experience. Throttle response is light, steering is moderately weighted, gear changes are smooth, auto start/stop is engaged (but less aggressively than in Economy mode), and climate control operates without restrictions.

Sport mode sharpens the driving dynamics. Throttle response becomes more immediate, steering firms up, and the transmission holds lower gears for longer, enhancing responsiveness and acceleration. However, auto start/stop remains active, and climate control is unaffected.

Sport+ mode represents a further intensification of Sport mode. While throttle and steering feel are further enhanced, the transmission behavior becomes excessively aggressive. Gear changes in Sport+ mode, particularly under harder acceleration, can be noticeably abrupt and clunky, feeling somewhat out of character for a vehicle in this class. Interestingly, Sport+ is the only mode that automatically deactivates the auto start/stop system, although it can be manually disabled in any mode.

Overall, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan is a well-rounded and appealing vehicle. While the Sport+ mode’s overly aggressive transmission tuning feels somewhat misjudged, and the auto start/stop system can be intrusive, the C300 excels as a luxurious and enjoyable compact sedan. For those seeking a blend of comfort, style, and respectable performance in a four-door package, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan is certainly a compelling option to consider.
