2008 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Crown Edition: An Ultra-Exclusive Supercar

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, born from a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren during their Formula 1 partnership, redefined the supercar landscape between 2003 and 2010. This exceptional vehicle not only showcased cutting-edge technology, echoing its legendary 300 SLR predecessor from 1955, but also delivered unparalleled performance wrapped in the luxurious essence of a Gran Turismo. To simply label the SLR McLaren as a ‘supercar’ feels insufficient; it’s a masterpiece of engineering and design, seamlessly blending breathtaking power with refined luxury.

When it comes to performance, the 2008 Mercedes Benz Slr McLaren remains in an elite class. Its acceleration is nothing short of phenomenal, sprinting from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in a mere 3.8 seconds. Reaching 125mph (200km/h) takes just 10.6 seconds, and from a standstill, it can achieve 186mph (300km/h) in a staggering 28.8 seconds. Ultimately, this two-seater boasts a top speed of 207mph (334km/h). The five-speed automatic transmission, meticulously optimized for high torque, features the Speedshift system, offering drivers a choice of distinct shift characteristics to suit their driving style.

In 2006, Mercedes-Benz introduced the coveted ‘722 Edition,’ a tribute to Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson’s remarkable victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. Their Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, bearing the starting number ‘722’ (representing their 7:22 a.m. start time), inspired this special edition. The 722 Editions, with only 150 units produced, are highly desirable among collectors, boasting significant enhancements over the standard SLR. These upgrades include a power increase to 641hp, along with refined dampers and aerodynamic improvements, elevating performance and exclusivity.

Taking exclusivity even further, the “Crown Edition” represents the zenith of SLR McLaren production. Limited to a mere ten cars, these were hand-picked from the production line and elevated to full 722-specification. This meant incorporating all the performance and aesthetic upgrades of the 722 Edition, including the enhanced engine, carbon fiber aerodynamic components, stiffer dampers, and distinctive 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The Crown Edition was, in essence, a 722 Edition in every aspect except name, signifying its even greater rarity and bespoke nature.

The 2008 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Crown Edition presented here, finished in a striking red with a complementary Silver Arrow leather interior, is an exceptional example – the ninth of only ten produced. Having been meticulously maintained in a private collection since its original purchase, this one-owner car has been kept in static display, preserving its pristine condition. Recently, Stratton Motor Company undertook recommissioning and servicing work, ensuring it is now running and driving, ready to offer its next owner the ultimate Grand Touring experience. With an incredibly low 60km recorded on the odometer, this remarkable vehicle is offered with a copy of the original 2008 purchase invoice and the recommissioning invoices from Stratton Motor Company, further attesting to its provenance and care.
