Amazon has solidified its commitment to sustainable logistics by placing a groundbreaking order for over 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric heavy goods vehicles. This monumental deal marks Amazon’s largest investment in electric heavy trucks to date and represents the biggest single order of electric trucks in Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ history, signaling a significant shift towards zero-emission transportation in the commercial sector.
From 2025, these state-of-the-art electric trucks will become integral to Amazon’s transportation network across Germany and the UK. They are strategically planned for deployment in middle-mile operations, efficiently moving cargo containers between Amazon’s vast network of fulfillment centers, sortation facilities, and delivery stations. This ambitious initiative is projected to facilitate the transportation of over 350 million packages annually, all while eliminating tailpipe emissions.
This significant order follows rigorous real-world testing of a near-production prototype of the eActros 600 at one of Amazon’s German logistics hubs. The successful trial provided invaluable data and affirmed the eActros 600’s capabilities in demanding operational environments, paving the way for this large-scale deployment.
Karin Rådström, Chairwoman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are very pleased that Amazon, a pioneer in the transformation towards alternative drives, has chosen the eActros 600, a gamechanger for sustainable transportation.” Her statement underscores the strategic importance of this partnership in driving the adoption of electric vehicles within the logistics industry.
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services Mercedes-Benz Trucks, further emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Amazon is an important customer for us on the path towards CO2-neutral transport. A near-series prototype of the eActros 600 has already been trialed by Amazon, providing valuable insights before the start of series production. We are therefore very pleased about this major order for the eActros 600.”
Andreas Marschner, Vice President of Worldwide Operations Sustainability at Amazon, highlighted the global impact of this decision: “The order of more than 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 underlines our commitment to being a leader in electrifying our transportation network in Europe. It is the biggest electric heavy truck order by Amazon to date anywhere in the world and is an important step as we work to achieve our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040.”
The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600: Redefining Electric Long-Haul Trucking
The eActros 600 is engineered for long-distance haulage, boasting a high battery capacity exceeding 600 kilowatt hours. This substantial power, combined with a newly developed, highly efficient electric drive axle from Mercedes-Benz, enables the truck to achieve a remarkable range of 500 kilometers on a single charge without intermediate charging. This range is validated under realistic operating conditions, carrying a 40-ton gross combination mass, and can extend further based on driving style and route topography.
In practice, the eActros 600 is designed to cover distances well over 1,000 kilometers daily. This is facilitated by opportunity charging during legally mandated driver breaks, utilizing CCS charging at up to 400 kW and with future capability for megawatt charging. Visually, the eActros 600 presents a cutting-edge minimalist design characterized by clean lines and aerodynamic efficiency, optimizing energy consumption and range.
From a fleet operator’s perspective, the eActros 600 sets new benchmarks in economic efficiency, positioning itself as a viable and superior replacement for diesel trucks in the long-distance transport sector. Mercedes-Benz Trucks provides a comprehensive ecosystem for its electric vehicles, encompassing vehicle technology, expert consulting, charging infrastructure solutions under the TruckCharge brand, and dedicated services.
The eActros 600’s real-world performance is well-documented. It has undergone extensive customer trials and completed the rigorous “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024,” a 15,000-kilometer all-electric journey across 22 countries with a 40-ton gross combination mass. Furthermore, the eActros 600 has been recognized as “International Truck of the Year 2025” by a jury of 24 European commercial vehicle journalists, underscoring its innovative design and market-leading technology. Series production of the eActros 600 commenced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth am Rhein at the end of 2024, marking a new era in electric commercial transportation and solidifying 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks as a pivotal force in Amazon’s sustainable fleet transformation.
